Description

From MangaProject:The story of the Kasuga family, but mostly the oldest son, Kyosuke, as they move to a new town after being found out to be a family of ESPers. Kyosuke meets a pretty young girl as he counts the "100 steps" (there may only be 99) that lead to his new school and is immediately smitten. However, the pretty young girl, named Ayukawa Madoka has agreed to help her best friend Hiyama Hikaru win Kyosuke. Thus, a love triangle is born. 204ar

it felt like the beginning where the love triangle begins and the end where everything is resolved was originally the whole story. Because most of the middle seemed like it was just filler or side stories.

The series as a whole has good characters, a nice hook with the esper thing but the only plot at all was the love triangle which had NO developments till near the end.

It kinda feels like the mangaka got his story approved based on the premise of it and then it droned on and on with episodical happenings that did nothing to advance the story or the love triangle until the editors said "alright, end the series in a volume or two".

If you like that kind of thing, or don't mind it, read this. If you like a story that actually tells a story then look else where.

Being over 20 years old, the story isn't very different than most shounen comedy romance manga nowadays. It started with a really great hook, and the plot right there stuck like glue; however, the story did begin to drag on for a very long time. 156 Chapters is pushing it quite a bit for what the story actually had. It was a very enjoyable read though. Many hilarious moments, with a pretty touching story. The artwork isn't bad at all, despite the age of the manga. The ending was so sweet and I personally just loved it, but it ended like any other standard shounen comedy romance; abruptly, after years of stalling. Kyousuke is like any other typical male lead: An indecisive idiot, but this is over the top. Just considering the amount of time that es from chapter 1 to 120, and then you realize that more character and plot development occurs in the next 30 chapters than the last 100 is a bit of a let down.
It's still quite the story though, but you can't help but want to kick Kyousuke for being so indecisive. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes romance comedies.

Was a pretty good read but my only real complante was after a while the plot just kept repeating itself. Kyosuke has double booked himself for a date and has to teleport between the two. Same story type, differnt location.

Flashback fun, future revisited

Having grown up myself in the 80s, this manga definitely was full of flashbacks, both good and bad. The art style is standard for the times, and honestly is better than some of the work we see today. Back then, there were no computers to ease the process, and manga had nowhere near the and popularity it does today. I see recent manga made in recent years that have a "slapped-together in 20 minutes" quality like it just came out of a sketchbook, so you can't really come down on KOR too hard. Not to mention, you do see progression in the quality of the characters and artwork over time (although the side characters seemed to still be kinda sketched-level).

As to the story, having read many other mangas prior to this, it was kinda like reading a storyline in reverse with inverted flashbacks. I spotted chapters here with plots that I've read from other more current mangas like I"s and Ichigo 100% (which I saw the most parallels from).

I had to chuckle a bit that the ending scene of Ichigo 100% is almost a complete copy of this one, even down to the scenery, stairs and all...no hat but still, she went away, came back and he comes running up steps...hmmm

To say this manga is the baseline for many successful 'current' mangas is an understatement, using almost every trick in the book that we now consider 'gimmicks' or cliches. Definitely a classic
While the character's wishy-washy nature is a bit annoying at times, it's that whole "noble klutz" bit and it's kinda hard to be mean to him. The one thing I will say that detracts a bit from the manga is that the overall story development never seems to go very far, with a fair amount early on, then kind've a "coasting mode" till the last volume. Regardless of that it's still a fun read, with his ESPer powers playing a big role and leading to some truly unique situations. Luckily his powers are not the driving force of the manga, more like the punchline...just about every serious issue is solved in a (fairly) normal manner. To my relief, the ending didn't feel all that rushed, taking up most of the last volume....almost expected to see a 1-2 chapter rush.

Not a manga for those that like the serious "let's spend 10 pages every other chapter reading about the protagonist psychoanalyzing himself" love triangle romances, but great if you like a light-hearted approach with a nice chunk of slapstick tossed in.

(couldn't give it a 10 due to the slow progression, but great overall regardless...the artwork barely gets in the way)

Classic romance but not much developments

Plot/Story:- It's about some boy who recently moved to a another town and he happens to run into some girl, that he sorta likes. Well things would be simple but him and his family are a bunch of espers, so sh*t happens

Artwork:- This is an old manga and even though the environments were drawn well the characters weren't, with some weird shaped heads. At least the main girl up there is alright most the time.

Final Thoughts:- This turned out to be pretty good for an old manga but because it's based on the 80s Japanese culture some of the stuff just seemed outdated, like their clothes and customs. Another issue is that the story barely developed at all during the 18 Volumes but at least it had plenty of laughs.

This is one of the classics, and it helped shape much of the early anime community in the western hemisphere. It is also notable for its good anime adaptation; unlike most others, you can enjoy the anime even if you've read the manga first.

Why are Esper-powers (respectively cute girls) always wasted on moronic, fictitious characters while nice people like have to be limited by the laws of physics?

PS: The more I read it, the more I feel the urge to strangle the main character to death...
