Read up to chapter 43 and I just can't sustain my interest in this series anymore. I think it has gone downhill since the first chapters tbh.
The main thing that kept me reading was the hope that the MC will eventually find a way to resurrect his dead companion and then...what? I don't know.
The problem is that the author doesn't know how to write a story. None of the characters feel fleshed out (not even the villains who just get a sad tragic backstory flashback for a few chapters before they die).
We got the old typical "she was abused by the church priests so she became evil" cliche. God I hate it so much but this story is just full of these. It's literally made of cliches. There is nothing original. All the characters are literally just cardboard cutouts of cliches.
Every one of MC's "friends" (if you can call them that) is literally just a sidekick. They have no independent thoughts, they always just agree and go along with whatever the MC says. It feels like I'm watching some 5-year old play with his toys.
The actual plot itself is too meandering and the MC keeps getting sidetracked, sticking his nose in random strangers' business for no reason. Random events happen (e.g. some rando steals some stone and now some spirit comes down and threatens to wipe out all of humanity unless the MC finds the stone) that force the MC to react and that's the entire arc.
Chapter 43 was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. In the last arc (retrieval of the spirit stone or whatever) MC was forced to invade some kingdom because if he didn't then the spirit would wipe out humanity. I thought that was pretty stupid but it was at least a reason. But in this latest arc that's about to start, the MC is about to invade some slavery kingdom simply because he thinks slavery is evil. There is no military or strategic reasoning behind this action - he's just attacking them because he thinks they're evil. I'm sure next chapters the manga will show us some evil things (probably rape, what else? The manga is so predictable at this point.) that evil slavers do in order to make us hate the slavers so as to justify the MC's random attack. That brings me to my next point.
This manga is so predictable. Everyone who goes against the MC is depicted as clearly either evil or delusional. And of course the MC always wins every fight without any losses. The MC is depicted as always in the right despite calling himself a demon lord and everyone else thinks he's evil but the manga insists that ACTUALLY the MC is the good guy even though he kills tons of innocent people for no reason: see last chapter when he allowed Dorda to slaughter innocent demons who haven't even done anything.
Whenever the MC slaughters innocent people the manga bends over backwards to justify it with stuff like "oh well, he's a demon lord, what do you expect? He needs to inspire fear. And actually he's a good guy because look, here are some people that he saved this one time."
Anyway, I feel like at this point I've seen more than enough to conclude that this manga isn't going anywhere. Dropped.
