You're completely ignoring the girls that do, though... There's a notable lack of balance between everyone large or everyone small, and at least ecchi harem always has at least one tiny breasted girl (which is actually unusual. Most generic harems have but one busty babe, and the rest are "just" beautiful). In shoujo, everyone has nothing.

Well the shounen ones are usually for fanservice. Shoujo doesn't need fanservice for girls, that's why they make the guys "hot."

I think that the overall look of the characters has more to do with the mangaka creating characters that their target groups can identify and what they will prefer to look at--more than anything else. But for the record, not all shoujo manga characters are flat chested. Not even the majority. They just don't tend to have huge boobs.

So it seems that I read different mangas than you.....people. In my shoujo the girls do have boobs...well not huge ones but they do...

It's just the fanservice boob cleavage isn't show since girls don't like to look at boobs....they like to look at their harem with bishounen prince-alike boys, tsundere boys, megane boys, wildtype boys and blushing boys....

I won't give you titles with girls with boobs in shoujo but I'll leave you with a genre instead: Shoujo smut!

Well, shoujo is targeted at girls, and I don't think girls look at other girl's breasts(straight girls that is). Shoujo is more about bishounen then bishoujo so there. Besides, some of the shoujo manga characters that i have read have pretty big ones too. guess it all depends on the author.

Shoujo is supposed to be for normal girl in our life so it's must be realistic. And in the real life, it's hard to find girls (or even woman) with big breasts. More than that, the main characters in shoujo manga usually have a very very normal look, othing special but she still can get a super handsome & talent boy.

Well... I have read a lot of shoujos.. and a lot of shounens.. and a like'em both...

Getting that out of the way, shoujos do tend to have girls with small breasts and it is because of what you say.. girls aren't attracted to titts lol

Going thru the conversation I noticed that they always say shounen's male leads are stupid, short and the like... I have read just a couple of storys like that.. in shounen, the lead is almost always a cool guy, muscular or handsome.. or popular...

The super big breasts are usually drawn in very poor quality hentais, NOT in shounen manga; and let me tell you... I don't know even one girl who is flat chested... all girls I know in real life are large b cups or bigger..

If you want shoujos with better drawing lines and art.. go for smut.. seriously.. aside from the big breast nudity and stuff.. the art is much much better than the harem-shoujo-plain lead girl thing, not only with the girls... the guys too

And yeah.. most normal shoujo's stories are of elementary or middle school girls.. hence the underdevelopment of the female leads..

I read shoujos for an entire different reason than I read shounen... that's pinkish romance... I read shounen for the action and adrenaline.. and of course.. beautifuly drawn girls...

Open your mind.. search for your sources of pleasure from different places ^^ can't have all in the same package.

Most of the girls I knew when I was around fourteen had breasts, it was really hard to overlook them 😀

Not really. I mean, there are some teenagers like that, but most of them have an average-sized bust size. Meaning they do have breasts.

Female shojo characters typically have smaller cup sizes to depict a "more realistic" character that the core demographic of grade school aged japanese girls can better relate to.

Female shonen characters typically have larger cup sizes to meet the demands of a core demographic of grade school aged japanese boys who prefer the fantasy over realistic depiction of breast sizes.

Pretty much. Plus everyone argued about what counts as "average", which is pretty silly because it's obvious that most of us are guessing based on manga, idols and actresses, and Japanese lingerie sizing (which works rather differently from sizing in other countries, so it doesn't mean what you think it does).

I don't know, maybe some women get offended by it. Don't say shojo readers can relate to small breasts because they are young. Even in josei the women have small breasts, they're not children. I think some Japanese women might be offended by big breasts, like they don't want to be seen as a sex object. I might be wrong.

But have you ever seen a shojo where the main lead didn't have a flat chest? I haven't. If you have, tell me cuz I wanna read it.
