Then I grew up and got a life.
So you're saying "growing up and getting a life" means living an empty and joyless existence?

If you're saying living your life through imaginary characters while pushing buttons and staring at a screen is fulfilling and joyful existance then I recommend trying heroin. It's even more joyful and less work with the same life fulfilling benefits.

Successful people read fiction books, successful people collect useless items, successful people play video games... in moderation.
One can enjoy something without living their life through it. You say you grew up but this hardline take on video games is as edgy as someone who didn't grow up.

To be fair what you replied to was a tongue-in-cheek reply to an ignorant comment that not playing video games equals "an empty and joyless existance". Of course we all waste time in some way, and in moderation it is an important part of dealing with stress of busy lives, but I just can't find the time for things like video games or television since growing up. Even on this forum I only manage to come by every few months or years.
But if we're being honest, video games are one of the most addictive, time devouring, non-rewarding things you can do with your life. Some people manage it fine and some video games are narrative masterpieces for sure, but for the most part defending playing video games is akin to defending watching porn. I mean, people do both by only try to rationalise why one is such a wonderful thing.

He would say that. Not playing videogames does not mean your life is joyless, it means you have other stuff to do that is either more enjoyable or important, such as work, friends or outdoor hobbies, but since he recommended to me a 1 hour+ video of a guy talking about random things then I can guess he might have a lot of time for games and stuff.
I used to play on PC, not really touched consoles since I was a teenager, although my wife has one for Just Dance (not played recently).
Every time I try a game, I seem to get bored and quit, like I break down the gameplay mechanics, and it is just press button, time this, and it feels really unengaging. Like I could just simulate the whole thing out in my head and it'd be the same with less time spent.
Still, if I were to choose, probably pc, but consoles have a lot more story focused titles which are appealing too.
I agree with the dude above, games can spiral into a complete waste of time if you live vicariously and get all your sense of achievement from them, building in them, unlocking stuff. It is akin to being in the matrix, then when you log off, outside the matrix in Zion waiting for the machines to come - huge contrast.
In moderation they are fine, if you use them as a way to de-stress maybe, but they are a time sink otherwise if played for more than an hour.
