Description

I started this series when I was really young, possibly around the same time or just after Ranma 1/2 was published in my country. I was instantly hooked with the mythologies and the transportation. Back then I had immense distaste for Fushigi Yugi, but this was a breeze. I loved the stories, the drama, the comedy, and the characters both the good and the bad guys. (I Sesshoumaru had this immense fanbase because he is so damn cool. But I never caught with that coolness haha. I always focused on the main characters. They get on my nerves sometimes because they are deeply flawed - and that is also why I love them till this day.)

I think it was around 10 volumes that I stopped reading it. It took another 5-6 years for it to continue too. Back at the time, the scanlation and manga reading sites were not in bloom (If you ing from MangaHelper, hi). So, I thought: damn it, this seriously drags. Because the story, in my opinion then, was getting convoluted and overly dramatised. I sighed and brooded because it was so good, one of my favourite, and part of my childhood.

A few years later, when everything became available online, I began re-reading Inuyasha for real. The magic of the first 10 volumes still there. More importantly, as I got older and matured a little bit more, I started to get how things were going. This time, I truly appreciate Rumiko Takahashi's tremendous work for this series.

So I will defend this series because I have re-read it from time to time, from front to back, I have laughed and cried, I have felt so many things that only come from really well thought out, hearty, ionate works in arts. I'm very thankful Takahashi got to tell her story in complete and readers like myself can read it in completion.

I didn't plan to write this. But this is a manga that I would leave to the children and recommend to anyone who'd find a glimpse of interest.

I love Inuyasha, Kagome and Kikyou. I love most every characters that were really invested in. This is one of the best.

There's that one arc that's a bit irritating but only because it's small compared to the other ones. For the most part you'll enjoy the adventure. The action makes since and isn't exactly random. The main character learns to develop and accept himself and our main heroine from the late 90's to early 2000's (but isn't all that noticeable until you realize there are no touch screen phones) becomes more interested in the world she has taken part in than her own despite not being as safe. Most villains are lovable and aren't just simply disposable, because they have depth. The main cast are like family and look out for each other.

it really didn't live up to my good cherished teenage memories of fangirling over these characters. I didn't realize the first time around that this manga was so.... pointless and boring. There's a way to make fillers interesting if you want to milk a world building... but wow this definitely ain't it.

Like many good-'ol-days mangas I read, I love this one too. Not only because of the dogs youkai (I'm a dog person), but also the story and the humors. But the problem with this manga is a typical one: story that tend to drag to long and going nowhere. I pity this type of manga, they milk their own creation into a boring thing just because of money. This manga was a hype back on his day, so now you know why it dragged for so long. I really don't mind a long story but with a REAL story and not some story that circling around.

The romance is a bs too. It's good at first, but I can't help but to keep thinking that

Kikyo got killed because Inuyasha can't choose which one he should chose. If Kikyo died, Inuyasha doesn't need to choose between Kagome and Kikyo. Rumiko-sensei also adds Kouga as the dog's rival so it'll get better??Well, it did, for several chapters, but Kouga kept coming with the same story. "OH! Shikon shard!! I know that Kagome will be here too, let's make the dog angry by doing some romantic moments"

The best thing in this manga is Sesshomaru. That dog's not only handsome but cool and SUPER bad*ss! Beneath his cold mask, he cares for everyone around him and let's be honest here, Jaken is funny because he always get the bad thing. Every time it's Sesshomaru's screen time, I cheered for him. I like him because I can see his point of his journey and every screen he gets, it's telling what we should know. Inuyasha and the gang of course has their own motives: finding Shikon shards, but too many journey wasted without doing Shikon finding. It feels like useless boring and bad fillers in the anime.

Now, it already ended, and what can I say? The ending is not good and feel forced, but anyway, many times I find myself wanted to watch and reread it again.

Not bad, but actually can be better.

Shaggy Dog Story

I it this is one of my first manga series I started way back in HS and I have a love/hate relationship with it. The main problem is that I found almost every other relationship more compelling than the weird love triangle and so many pointless side arcs to nowhere. I feel like it would've been much better if they cut 250 ch down and we could finally deal with the villain much sooner than 50+ vol.

Another problem was that Kagome isn't much of an interesting MC other than lolexams and sometimes annoyed by Inuyasha. We don't get what motivates her other than saving the world and some snarky comments. In the entire series, I can't even name if she had a hobby or why she had friends. So her personal character development fell by the wayside and we had side villains with unique backstories that had greater depth.

Damn, that ending where Kagome just gave up modern life for good? No regrets at married at18? I mean, technically Inuyasha is immortal so how does their longterm relationship work again? Does her family even care?

A bit too long but YES it’s a classic

It took me several days to finish Inuyasha (with breaks in-between) and have now gone through the mishmash of gushing and frustrated reviews posted here. I get both sides and LOL’d at some of the snark I found. Here are their main points and my take on each:

LENGTH - I don’t think the manga’s length itself is the problem but the repetitiveness of several story arcs that didn’t move the story that much forward and could have been skipped.

ART - No it’s not pretty like we’re used to from the likes of Vampire Knight, REAL, Blade of the Immortal and Otoyomegatari but there’s something very endearing about it similar to other classics like Mitsuru Adachi’s Rough.

CHARACTERS - Most of the villagers and youkai they meet are forgettable and the main characters have strong similarities with previous characters from Maison Ikkoku and Ranma. However, there are noticeable character growths among everyone (although it’s not perfect and could have been done at a slightly shorter period).

HUMOR - Is a mix between subtle and slapstick.

VIOLENCE - Is present in nearly all chapters but done in an old school sort of way; it’s “clean” meaning no rape and torture which other mangakas working in similar genres automatically add.

ROMANCE - I like that it’s mostly at the background and a bit understated. Normally I’d be annoyed with a main character who can’t seem to make up his/her mind but the reasons for the love triangle here is understandable and I sympathized with them all.

NARAKU (aka The Villain) - Is indeed as annoying as they say. I’ve never felt fear from his many “power-ups” and just wanted him dead like how one wishes to step on a cockroach that should have long been gone.

CLICHE - I think what most people fail to realize is that most of the themes we thought were from other manga (and have seen many times over) actually originated from the likes of Rumiko Takahashi whose careers started back in the 70s. I’ve read somewhere that Maison Ikkoku, her previous manga, inspired succeeding generations of romance and comedy tropes.

ENDING - Did not feel rushed and capped things off nicely. I wish they showed Kouga one last time though.

ANIME vs MANGA - I usually like manga better than any anime (if I ended up reading it first) but this seems to be special case. Having read all 559 chapters of the manga and having watched 1 episode of the anime just now, the anime feels more compact and interesting.

Bottomline:
Inuyasha could benefit from whittling down a few hundred chapters but it has the makings of an instant classic and deserves its spot just below some of manga world’s greatest series.

It was a great read! I watched the anime first (filler free) and read the manga after because I wanted to see if there were any major differences. The manga could be condensed for sure and be sorter and more to the point (but I guess they wanted to extend as long as possible haha)

anime is censored for blood/gore that the manga has in abundance

I really liked the character development/growth

Anyway, it was a great read and totally reccomended... by me!

The action is fine but feels like is just there to feel the void of the romantic story (in my opinion at least), problem is you don't really get great action since the only one who knows how to fight is Inuyasha, and the romantic part is SO incomplete.
Without spoilers, when I read the final chapter and moreover, the final page, I just wanted to kill Rumiko Takahashi SO BAD. I felt like all those literally hundreds of chapters were a huge waste of my time.

I don't know why people call the manga 'ugly'. ôo Of course the drawings are way different from other mangas, but that's just Takahashis style and I really like it, BECAUSE it is different. It's only my opinion, though. ^^ The characters have a good depth (this goes especially for Inuyasha), but I also like the ones from Ranma 1/2 and Kyokai no Rinne (although this story is not as much interesting as Inuyasha and I have to it that some of the characters are still lacking something). I also think there are a lot of other animes, which look even better than the mangas (like One Piece or Fairy Tail), so this doesn't only go for Takahashis mangas. Well, at least it depends on the taste wether you like the drawings or not - I, for example, can't stand the way some shôjo mangas are drawn - but somehow you can say that the art itself has to be related to the genre and the story. That's how I deal with it. Just imagine Inuyasha, One Piece or Fairy Tail drawn in a shôjo-way or the other way around! It gives me the creeps! :'D So if you're not to aversed by the drawings I can only recommend to read this manga. b(^.~)d Although it will take a looong time since there are 56 volumes, it's real fun to follow the story with all the up and downs. 🙂

It's great if you started and kept at it. I finished and agree with many that this was one of the very few manga where the anime actually turned out better, way better than the manga itself.
