Not a bug or suggestion per se, 28l2s

But what exactly does the site mean by "activity" in determining the overall activity stats list?

I couldn't easily find a post explaining this. It would be nice if the Series Stats page was updated to better explain what "activities" contribute to a series' ranking.

Unless the concern is that by explaining what activities are being counted, people might try to game or upend the system?

Any idea how it works after 3 years?

I posted what I thought might be a bug a while back (quoted below). It seems like it simply represents page views. With regards to it being "gamed or upended", not sure that truly matters. I think it's mainly an idle curiosity sorta thing.

are the activity stats borked? i ask because looking at the "Series Stats" page, the current results seem unintuitive.

for example, if i select the "Six Month" option, "I Need a Bride" is currently ranked #12.

this series has:

  • no releases listed
  • a few categories with no votes
  • 1 rating
  • fairly low list stats?

a random series i selected from the recent releases page has more activity in all visible metrics but has a much lower rank.

sorry if this is a known issue. if it's not, i don't know when it appeared—i check series stats only occasionally.

Quote from Manick

I just checked that series against Google Analytics, and it appears it does get the views ... usually once a week it will get a spike, and then tapers off till next week.

March 2, March 9, March 16, March 23, March 30 are the most recent.

I think someone is linking here and we get quite a bit of hits when there's a new chapter for each.

Edit: Most hits for that page are direct from Google

Honestly, the metric needs to change. Raw page views worked much better back in the day when MU was more popular.

I've thought about modifying it to take into how often series chapters are 'read' on lists. Like I've said in other threads though, our main goal right now is to get the frontend into a state that we can add new features. All of the code is from 2005 and uses javascript technology from an era before all the frameworks.
