i'm pro death penalty becuase i don't want to have to pay taxes to keep murderers pedophiles and such alive. they lost their right to have a decent life when they did thier crimes.

one of the con to this issue is concerning the variable of the case itself. In the past, quite a few people were found innocent after their execution.

I dont Death Penalty.

Its too good for them, They just die and thats it. The REAL evil guys that get the death penalty need to suffer more than just die.

what is more suffering than death??

for example:

Chain him to all wall in a solitary soundproof cell with no windows, insert an IV that gives him Nuitrition and fluids, extract all his teeth so that he will not be able to bite his tounge off an leave hime there.

How about put him into the coffin, bury him underground and his body will rot, he cannot move, cannot breath, cannot think, and the body will be eaten by the insects slowly..I guess this also suffering and the chance for the criminal to break free is 0%.

MAY I NEED TO REMIND YOU GUYS WE AREN'T BRAGGING ABOUT WHO CAN THINK UP THE MOST PAINFUL AND SICK WAY TO TORTURE SOMEONE? We are here to disguss the pro and con of death penalty. Personally I would like the mod to lock such controversial topic. But since Lambpoop has a fetish for death and torture. Whatever.

I vote for the lobotomy of violent criminals sentenced to death. Then we'll put that empty shell to use and make them into slaves. You religious people are happy because we spared them.

Don't group people against the death penalty as religious people, you don't have to be religious to posses some empathy/forgiveness 🙄 . Anyway it's usually the religious right that is in favour of death penalty. The majority of states that have death penalty are in the bible belt.

Also your idea would probably fall under "cruel and unusual punishment"...and yas haven't got rid of that amendment just yet 😉

@Irenicus it costs a lot more to keep them on death row than normal prison and you can sometimes spend years on death row. Also the cocktail they give you ain't cheap 😮

I the death penalty for the criminals that do really really really bad things because the government would costs millions of money to this kind of people to lock them up instead of using it to the poor people and for the country..

This is the only valid reason to the death penalty. Surely killing someone is wrong, but using tax payers money to keep that man alive is surely a violation of people's civil rights.

Why is killing wrong? Why is violating civil rights wrong? If they are both wrong, does killing someone outweigh violating civil rights? Who determines if it does? Why do we have to listen to that someone who determines it?

These are just some basic questions you should ask in an ethical argument.

Considering that there are plenty of innocents in jail as well, and some serving consecutive lifes, etc... and only a small percentage of them are released before the end of their sentencing, how is taking 20 years away from a man different from taking his life?

So we should stop giving life sentences?

Innocents get hurt, in any system. At least Death penalty is more humane than enclosing an innocent in a anti social environment to fend for his life for years and then simply releasing them (if the'yre "lucky") back into society with an apology.

If you think death isn't "humane" then consider the insects you kill without second thought, the meat you eat, the TV you watch, the culture you're living in. "Humane" is only a reflection of current social opinion. In my opinon death has never been as championed as today's moral standards.

If the death penalty is globally accepted,(longshot, but whatever) the costs would be minimal and there would not be lengthy protests and stalling, which contributes to the "deathrow waitlist".

but religious groups are a huge advocate against death penalty. Something about going against God and nature rather than sympathy. As far as I know, every religion portrayed God doing something vengeful. Those people don't sympathize, their fear of God's wrath force them to sympathize. We'll give the prisoner as choice. Either get lobotomized or get the death penalty. It's like the movie CUBE

Against? Texas is the state with most death penalty in USA and the highest percentage of people with a religious affiliation.

I believe in it. But as a last resort for the most hideous crimes where DNA has proved who the culprit was. The society shouldn't recklessly kill people, just as people shouldn't recklessly kill others.

As for religious groups, it depends on which group. There's tons of different ones.
