As for me, I noticed that Japanese songs tend to have a lot more feeling and meaning within the lyrics. For example, a certain, yet EXTREMELY touching scene nearing the end of an episode of FMA Brotherhood, plays the song, Let It Out by Miho Fukuhara. I think the fandom knows which episode it is that I'm talking about, and if no one has heard it yet, then please do yourself the favor of listening to it and following along with a translation of the lyrics.
So. Damn. Beautiful... T___T
Korean on the other hand tends to be nonsensical at times, mostly throwing in words like 'girl' or 'baby'. Korean artists also tend to focus more on looks as well, I believe. But as a few have already mentioned, Korean music can be extremely catchy. This is just a personal opinion though, (and it should be noted that I love both J and K-pop) so please feel free to share your thoughts.
*note-I've been listening to Hole in Your Face by Phantom for the past week now. The lyrics and beat are AMAZING. Do yourself a favor and listen to this one as well if you already haven't.

fuck all japanese music
they arent to be compared to korean brilliance
japan is extremely repetitive in its music and out dated.
japans music sucks so much that they get koreans to be on there top music charts

Kpop does mostly better hip-hop, while jpop does mostly better wholesome singing kind of stuff. But then again, I usually only come into with those sorts of songs within each.

ANYWAY, I totally agree with drolemil's statement. I really prefer Japanese music though because that's what I grew up listening to, and I can't get into Kmusic. There are some really cute Korean songs out there though, like Lollipop... it gets stuck in my head a lot, haha. But other than that, I really like Japanese songs. :3 They can get pretty emotional though, hahaha. xD But I really like that about Jmusic... the heart and soul and feeling~ :>

I have to say K-pop does tend towards the hip-hop (well, the mainstream stuff anyway) and a lot of the English lyrics are there for rhyme (rather than making any sense at all -_-). And unfortunately, they do prioritize looks too much...
However I do prefer K-pop as it's far more catchy. If anything, I like their indie material more - such as artists on the Fluxus label.

well when I listen to kpop they throw usually in english words that have absolutely no relevance with the song.(most of the time)
and yes the language.
I find that jpop lyrics are more 'meaningful' than kpop, even though kpop songs are catchier than jpop....

Agree. Japanese songs tend to have more meaning and have various genre. I like JPop better.
Some of Korean Songs pretty sweet actually, but they focused on Love too much. And most of the K-song are booooring. Seriously, boring. When I watched Boybands--Girlbands, their dance performance like some folks doing aerobic, and every one of them only sang 2-3 senteces. I don't like K-pop song when it has more than 5 people sing together in one song.

For K-pop, I mostly listen to hip-hop/pop whereas I listen to just about every genre there is for J-pop.
I'll agree with khmershinobi, though. Korean artists, to some degree, do seem like they prioritize on looks. Apart from that, I'm sure there are many similarities over differences.

i'm not really fond of J-pop or K-pop songs (since i'm not really into pop songs & i rarely appreciate dance). but there are some times that some songs are just beautiful enough to make me like the ones who composed it (without the case if it's J-pop or K-pop). i'm not going to say what's sucks. But I must confess, I much prefer J-pop songs, from KAT-TUN & Yui mostly. there's also a song i really liked the most from BIG BANG (K-pop) tho, entitled "Haru Haru". since that song's the only one i could possibly listen to over and over again from K-pop.
all matters to me is "How will this song reach my heart from it's pure beauty."; it's not because the singers are handsome, cute, hot or whatsoever . (drama much? XD)

As someone who doesn't understand either Japanese or Korean the meaning and stuff is less important and it's all about the sound. And then they quickly become indistinguishable for me.
So no differences to me.

I relly like both. But i gotta say that jpop is my life, lol. But, seriously, i grew up listening japanese music and i really love it. I think nowadays kpop is only for dancing and ballads (that i like but not all the lyrics has depth). And in jpop you have a lot of variety to hear and there are a lot of beautiful voices really unique. I don't say evey jpop song has the best lyrics, but most of them has a message to give and really cheer you up when you're down. And for kpop I love it but prefer korean hiphop or the old groups such as H.O.T, G.O.D or Shinhwa, because they have awesome lyrics and the music is much better than the currently kpop, in my opinion.

I am an avid kpop fan. Kpop can be more diverse than people think it is. Some of it can be heavily influenced by Western music, which is basically the sound of YG Entertainment. There are your JYP ballads and your electro SM dance tracks. I'm not sure if this happens in the Jpop world but for a Korean wanting to be an idol they have to go through a lot of training. Sometimes I found kpop a little 'too perfect'.
Kpop is all about the visuals too, there's even a place in a group called the Visual or Face. The music videos are much better than Western ones, having really heavy plot line, like Haru Haru by Big Bang, or full of amazing choreography, unnecessary lip-rubbing and flashy sets, like Sherlock by SHINee.
I dislike it when people say that Kpop doesn't really have a lot of meaning to it, when there are some songs that really make you feel. K-Indie Rock, one of the best genres of music I've ever stumbled upon, check out Busker Busker.
There's always a certain image a group or soloist tried to go for like IU, who used to go for the 'Nation's Little Sister' look, all innocent and sweet. I think SHINee's going for a hipster look with their Dream Girl concept. 2NE1 and Big Bang are definitely going for a Western 'Swag' (It was the only word I could use, I hate the word myself) with a uniqueness with it.
I know heaps about kpop not a lot about jpop, but I can instantly listen to a song and know that its kpop.
