One of the reviews called the author the shakespeare of modern times.....lmao...calm down there 403w2f
Maybe he/she meant Shakespeare from Romeo X Juliet. He seemed like a hack to me too so the accusation fits 😛. Shuukan Shounen Magazine published Violence Jack as Shounen so I am not surprised that they keep their legacy of "quality" young adult publishing strong.
@RockoDyne Shakespeare invented half the modern language and the modern drama form. He is the real deal.
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

That may have been a bit of a hyperbolic comment. Most of what the mangaka has done is wrap soap opera drama in a shonen package... Actually, the Shakespeare comparison might not be that inaccurate. I suppose they aren't that far apart in of what they are doing with drama, but I don't imagine that's what the poster was thinking about.

Haha! Can't believe someone wrote that. I have a hard time reading this mangaka's works, the drama is a bit too greasy for my taste.

I guess, in that reviewer's case, that's the impact you get when you're still innocent and haven't properly stepped into the world of manga. (Or he's trolling, less likely, or he's inexperienced on some other levels... No offense if you're reading this! 🤣 ) Personally, I some dumb manga I've read in my first days of "" ( 🤣 ) and I know now it's just like any other shallow things I've been reading later on but I just can't escape the impression I was left with. I thought back then, "Wow, so frustrating... What the hell is this, why do these things get published...?! If this is just a comic, I wonder how timid Japanese are in real life. She's oppressed, he's depressed. Actually, this is one brilliant form of psychoanalysis ..." and c$%p like that. Now, maybe this Shakespearean stuff means the ambient, which really is some sort of suffering and dragging on... (...when you're reading it. 😁 )
So, it could be the case of those stories you hold dear for being your firsts and are treasured simply because of memories, irrelevant of the filtering and "quality check" we build up later.
